6on7 vs OkCupid
OkCupid is the intellectual of the category. It has been running since 2004, it treats its users as adults, and its identity options are the most complete of any major app.
What OkCupid does better
The matching questionnaire is the most serious attempt anyone has made at compatibility, and it is genuinely well built. Answering a few hundred questions and getting a percentage is a satisfying, legible kind of progress that no other app offers.
Its gender and orientation options are the widest of the major platforms, and it was early to treat those as first-class rather than as an edge case. It also has a real desktop product, which most of the category gave up on.
Where the products genuinely differ
The honest difference is philosophical. A compatibility percentage is a prediction about your future with a stranger, and the research on algorithmic matching has been unkind: a major review in Psychological Science in the Public Interest found matching algorithms were only negligibly better than random at predicting relationship outcomes. A percentage is a number the site controls the inputs to.
We do not make that claim. Instead we show you what a person has actually confirmed and what people who met them said afterwards. That is evidence about the past rather than a forecast about the future, and you can check it.
We also run a real desktop product, since we are a website rather than an app with a marketing site attached.
What each one costs
OkCupid shows advertising on the free tier, limits likes, and charges a subscription to remove adverts, unlock unlimited likes, and see who liked you by name.
There are no adverts here, no like limit, and who liked you is free on every tier including the free one.
Safety
OkCupid offers photo verification and a report flow, and its approach of hiding first messages until the recipient engages does reduce harassment. It does not offer ID verification or background checks.
We take the opposite approach to first messages - a match simply opens a conversation - but back it with graded verification, so the person writing to you has something checkable behind them.
The straight answer
If you enjoy the questionnaire and want the widest identity options, OkCupid is a good home and has been for twenty years. Come here if you want evidence about who somebody is rather than a compatibility score.
