Compare

How we compare, honestly

Every one of these apps does something better than we do, and this page says what it is. If a competitor is the right choice for you, it says that too. A comparison where we win every line would tell you nothing except that we wrote it.

We describe what each product is like to use and what it costs, based on published pricing and reported coverage as of late 2026. Check anything that matters to you directly before deciding.

6on7 vs Tinder

What Tinder does better
The largest pool of people anywhere, and it works in 190 countries. If you want the highest possible chance that somebody you like is on the app, that is Tinder, and no one else is close.
Where we are different
Tinder shows you a photo and asks for a verdict in about a second. We show you one person at a time with everything they have chosen to write - you can swipe, but the card carries their whole story, not just a photo. The trade is speed for substance: fewer people an hour, more of them worth an hour.
What free means on each
Tinder limits how many likes you can give before it asks you to pay, and sells boosts and super likes on top. There is no like limit here and nothing to buy when you run out, because you cannot run out.
Pick Tinder if
You want the biggest possible pool and you are happy with a fast, photo-first decision. That is a legitimate preference and Tinder is the best product for it.

6on7 vs Bumble

What Bumble does better
Bumble invented photo verification in the US in 2016 and was first to market with it, and it open-sourced its nude-detection model. Its safety engineering has genuinely led the category.
Where we are different
Bumble used to require women to message first inside a 24-hour window. It dropped the rule in 2024 and removed it entirely in August 2026, replacing the 24-hour timer with 72 hours. We do not think a countdown belongs on a conversation, so we do not have one. A wave lets you invite somebody to speak first without a clock running on it.
What free means on each
Bumble limits daily likes and sells SuperSwipes, Spotlights and the Beeline. Everything that gets you to a first date is free here.
Pick Bumble if
You want a platform with a long track record on safety engineering and you are comfortable with a swiping interface.

6on7 vs Hinge

What Hinge does better
Hinge has the best prompt design in the category and it deserves the credit for making prompts mainstream. Liking a specific photo or answer instead of a whole person was a genuine improvement on the swipe, and its interface is the most thoughtfully built of the major apps.
Where we are different
The difference is what happens to your photos. On Hinge your images are on your profile for anyone who reaches it; here they are in a private collection that nobody sees until you accept a request, with an expiry and an open log. We also have no rose economy and no like cap - Hinge gives you eight likes a day and sells you more.
What free means on each
Eight likes a day, then you pay. Hinge+ and Hinge X also sell you the list of people who liked you, which is free here.
Pick Hinge if
You love the prompt-comment format and you are not concerned about where your photos are stored. Hinge is excellent at what it does.

6on7 vs OkCupid

What OkCupid does better
OkCupid's matching questionnaire is the most serious attempt anyone has made at compatibility, and it has the widest gender and orientation options of any major app. It also has a real desktop product, which most of the category does not.
Where we are different
A compatibility percentage is a claim about the future that is hard to verify. We do not make one. Instead we show you the checks a person has actually passed and let you read what people who met them said, which is evidence about the past rather than a prediction.
What free means on each
OkCupid limits likes and shows adverts on the free tier, and charges to see who liked you.
Pick OkCupid if
Long questionnaires appeal to you and you want the widest possible set of identity options. OkCupid is strong on both.

6on7 vs Coffee Meets Bagel

What Coffee Meets Bagel does better
CMB was the first mainstream app to argue that a small curated daily set beats an endless deck, and it was right. Its daily bagels at noon is the closest thing in the category to how we present people.
Where we are different
We agree with CMB's premise and differ on the pool. CMB is best in a handful of large cities, and its free tier runs dry quickly if your filters are narrow. We are open in 248 countries with no waitlist, and the daily batch is an ordering rather than a ration - you can always see everybody, in a different order, by changing the sort.
What free means on each
CMB's free tier limits likes and gates most filters behind Premium, and sells flowers and boosts.
Pick Coffee Meets Bagel if
You are in a city where CMB has real density and you like the daily-batch rhythm.

6on7 vs Plenty of Fish

What Plenty of Fish does better
Free messaging. POF has long let free members message without paying, which most of the big apps do not, and it carries a long-running personality test that feeds its suggestions. For a no-cost start it is one of the most generous of the large apps.
Where we are different
Free messaging is the part we agree with - messaging is free here too. Where we differ is what you can see before you reply: every profile here shows exactly which checks that person passed, from a confirmed email up to an ID, and your photos sit in a private collection you open one person at a time rather than on a profile.
What free means on each
POF sells several paid tiers on top of free messaging, which add things like seeing who is interested in you, read receipts and more visibility, plus paid boosts. Here, who liked you is free, there is no like meter, and there is nothing to buy except a wider, more filtered pool.
Pick Plenty of Fish if
You want a large, long-established free app and you are comfortable with a profile-first, ad-supported experience. It is a reasonable place to start.

6on7 vs Match

What Match does better
Match has been running since 1995 and its Singles in America study is the largest ongoing research programme on single adults anywhere. Its membership skews older and toward people explicitly looking for a long-term relationship.
Where we are different
Match was sued in 2011 over allegations that up to 60 percent of its profiles were inactive or fake, which inflated the numbers members were shown. It settled out of court. We publish no member count at all.
What free means on each
Match's free tier is close to a preview: you generally need a subscription to message. Here, messaging is free on every tier.
Pick Match if
You are looking for a long-term relationship in an older demographic and you are happy to pay a subscription.

The short version

If you want the largest possible pool and you accept a swipe, use Tinder. If you want the best prompt design, use Hinge. If you want lengthy questionnaires, use OkCupid. If you want a safety-first brand with the longest track record, use Bumble. If you are in one of CMB's strong cities, try them.

Use this if what you want is to know who you are meeting before you meet them, to keep your photos and your reviews private until you decide otherwise, and to never hit a like limit or a boost upsell. That is the whole of it, and it is free.

If what you are really reacting to is a paywall rather than a product, the what you actually pay for page goes through each paid feature and says which ones are worth it. The reasons behind the differences are argued at length in the advice section, and the safety model is spelled out on the safety page.
